A HEARTFELT THANKS FROM FHEF ....

On September 29, 2009, typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines.  FHEF (Canada) put together a collection of non-perishable goods (cereals, powdered milk, sugar, coffee, rice, etc.), medical, cooking and educational supplies, which were shipped to the affected areas.

On behalf of the families affected by Typhoon Ondoy, Typhoon Katsana and Typhoon Parma, the Foundation would like to thank you for your generous donations.

A special THANK YOU goes out to the volunteers for taking the time to help our organization prepare 22 boxes which were shipped to our motherland later that month.  





Some of FHEF's key achievements to date include: 
  • Raised funds for the Poverty Alleviation Program sponsored by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo during her January 30, 2002 visit to Toronto.
  • Assisted in the financial support of Fe Careen Samson, a courageous 14-year old girl from the Philippines.  In November 2003, Fe Careen underwent tumor removal surgery in the Hospital for Sick Kids, Toronto.
  • Provided financial assistance for education to youths in Canada and in the Philippines.
  • Annually transported door-to-door boxes of donated goods distributed to the needy people of the Philippines
  • Partnership with 25forLife Basketball Club Inc. (2008-present)
  • Water Filter Project of Naga City (2008-09)



 


FHEF sponsors programs and activities that are consistent with its objectives.  FHEF is currently supporting the following programs:


Dr. Jose Rizal Scholarship Program


This Canadian-based scholarship program is aimed at increasing the number of Canadian Filipino graduates in Canada.   The scholarship's aim is to provide financial support to qualified candidates pursuing studies here in Canada
.  Please see the Program Sheet for details of the scholarship.

FHEF is proud to announce that through the continuous financial support of the Foundation to Christopher Y. Cruz, he will be graduating at the end of the school year 2010.  Christopher received our scholarship throughout his post-secondary education.  Christopher is a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School.  Upon graduation he was the recipient of the Governor General's Academic Medal for academic excellence.  

FHEF is also proud to announce our 2nd scholar of the Dr. Jose Rizal scholarship, Justin dela Cruz.  Justin is a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School and wishes to pursue a career in teaching.  He is currently attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

Andres Bonifacio Scholarship Program


This Philippine-based scholarship program is aimed at helping underprivileged youths complete their studies.

Following are the FHEF scholars for the 2009/2010 program:

Care Package Program


This program aims at providing assistance to needy individuals in various areas of the Philippines.  Assistance comes in the form of box donations of books, clothes, school and medical supplies. This annual event is possible due to the generous donations of our patrons.  If anyone is interested in donating surplus items, please contact FHEF and pick-up can be arranged.

In July 2008, volunteers sorted and packaged 15 Door-to-Door boxes that were sent to the following regions of the Philippines - Mandaluyong, San Fernando, Cebu, Pateros, Taal, Batangas and Naga City.  We would like to thank all of those who donated and request for your continuing support of this program.


Support of Immaculate Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries


This program aims at providing financial and care package support to Immaculate Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries (MQHM) Rehabilitation and Livelihood Training Center for Women and Children Commercial Sex Workers in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines.  The overall goal of the program is to empower women and children by increasing their range of livelihood choices.  The MQHM hopes to do so by regaining their social awareness, facilitating psychological and spiritual healing, and improving their productive living skills.
